The Type
Three voices, each with a job. Kaleo is the signature — the wordmark, the headlines, the marquee — warm and unmistakably ours. Fraunces carries the editorial weight: section titles, case studies, the things that should feel like a publication. Newsreader sets the body, because long reading wants a serif that disappears. Archivo handles the small workings — labels and buttons — and Courier Prime stamps the datelines and captions, like notes in a margin.
The Palette
A small, stubborn set. Burnt orange for the voice, cream for the page, charcoal for the dark we live in. Sand and fern turn up quietly when something needs a third note. No pure black, no pure white — nothing in nature is.
The Build
Hand-written HTML and CSS — no page builder, no template, no framework tax. That keeps it fast, keeps it ours, and means it loads on a clifftop with one bar of signal. Every photograph and film is compressed and self-hosted; the type loads in a blink. The whole thing is built to be edited by a human, not a plugin.
The Photographs
Every image here was made by us, on real days, in real places between Cornwall and South Africa. We'd rather a true moment than a perfect one — so you'll find spray, grain and weather, not stock. If a picture looks like somewhere you'd actually go, that's the point.
Made By
Georgia and Cuan — a photographer-journalist and a filmmaker — with a lot of coffee and a shared dislike of anything that feels like an advert. If you'd like a site that sounds like you and loads like this one, that's Create.
