First Safari
Some dreams stay with you for so long that, when they finally happen, they almost don't feel real.
For me, a safari was one of those dreams, I’ve always felt a deep connection to animals.
The landscape stretched endlessly around us, and almost immediately the bush came to life. Springboks bounded effortlessly across the grasslands, warthogs hurried past with their unmistakable determined trot. Every direction held something moving, something worth watching.
Then, rising above the trees, a giraffe appeared.
No photograph had ever prepared me for its scale. Everything about it felt slower and larger than it should, the way it moved through the branches like it had all the time in the world.

But the moment that stayed with me most came a little later. We found a family of elephants.
Then, without warning, one walked silently behind our vehicle and brushed gently against the side of the jeep, close enough to hear it breathe.
The day ended with a traditional South African meal, and I remember turning to Cuan and saying, “I think this is the best day of my life.” Looking back, I still think it was.
Some experiences stay with you because of what you see. Others stay with you because of how they make you feel.
This was both.
